How a search for the perfect family dog became Tarheel Labradoodles.
Our journey began the same way it does for many families, searching for the perfect dog. We wanted a companion that was non-shedding, allergy-friendly, and wonderful with young children. That search led us to the incredible Australian Labradoodle… and everything changed from there.
Paisley was our first multigenerational Australian Labradoodle and the heart of where it all began. We brought her home to our three young children, ages 2, 3, and 7 at the time, and she quickly became more than a pet… she was family. As our love for the breed grew, so did our vision. In 2008, we welcomed Peggy all the way from Oregon, at a time when Australian Labradoodles were still rare on the East Coast. Peggy became our foundation girl and is the great-grandmother to many of the puppies in our program today.
"While breeding has evolved over the years, one thing has never changed: my deep love and respect for dogs."
My passion for dogs started long before Tarheel Labradoodles. Growing up, my father was an avid coon dog hunter and breeder, and I spent countless hours at hunting events and shows alongside him.
We are proudly located in Troutman, North Carolina, where I was born and raised. My husband, however, is from Buffalo, so while that makes us big Buffalo Bills fans on Sundays, I still hold strong to my love for my Tar Heels… hence the name Tarheel Labradoodles! The Australian Labradoodle has proven to be the perfect fit not only for our family, but for so many others. They are intuitive, intelligent, family-oriented, active, and truly some of the best cuddlers you’ll ever meet.
The Tarheel Standard
Health & Integrity First
At Tarheel Labradoodles, our program is built on a foundation of health, transparency, and intentional raising. We became proud members of the ALAA in 2010, aligning ourselves with a community that prioritizes responsible breeding and breed integrity. Every breeding dog undergoes comprehensive health testing prior to being considered.
Purposeful Raising
From the very beginning, our puppies are raised with purpose. We implement Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS) and structured socialization, helping to build confident, resilient, and well-adjusted companions. Our home is thoughtfully designed with a dedicated space just for raising puppies, along with our own puppy daycare environment.
Radical Transparency
We believe in full transparency and connection with our families. Through our 24/7 puppy cam, weekly updates, and in-home visits at six weeks, families are able to follow along and truly be part of their puppy’s journey from the very start. Our matching process combines formal temperament evaluations with family preferences.
Lifetime Support
What makes Tarheel Labradoodles unique is the experience—we strive to make each family feel involved, informed, and confident every step of the way. Our commitment doesn’t end at go-home day. We provide ongoing support for the lifetime of our dogs, building lasting relationships with the families who welcome our puppies.

Frequently Asked Questions
Have a question about our breeding program, waitlist, or what to expect? We’ve got you covered.
How long is your typical waitlist?
Our waitlist can vary quite a bit depending on your preferences and the time of year. Some families choose to wait for a very specific pairing, size, or color, which can take around 4–6 months. However, at times we may have puppies readily available! It really comes down to what you’re looking for and how flexible you are.
Available PuppiesDo you offer training for puppies?
Yes, we do offer training options to help set our puppies—and their families—up for success! We offer transitional training where puppies can stay with our daughter-in-law starting at 8 weeks to work on house training, crate training, and basic commands (2-4 weeks). We also highly recommend 2BK9 Training, led by Brittany, who offers a Puppy Jumpstart at 4 months and Board and Train Obedience at 6 months.
Can we visit the puppies in person?
Yes! We love for families to meet the puppies in person. We schedule in-home visits at around 6 weeks of age for families on our reservation list. To protect the fragile immune systems of our litters and keep a calm environment for our moms, we do not allow visits prior to that time. In the meantime, we offer full transparency through our 24/7 puppy cam, photos, and weekly updates!
Do you health test your dogs?
Yes, health testing is a top priority in our program. All breeding dogs undergo extensive testing prior to being bred, including genetic testing (Orivet/UC Davis) and orthopedic evaluations (PennHIP, OFA hips, elbows, patellas, and eyes). As an ALAA member, we strictly follow their guidelines to ensure we produce well-rounded, healthy puppies.
Learn About Our Health TestingWhat is the difference between an Australian Labradoodle and a regular Labradoodle?
A standard Labradoodle is typically a first-generation mix (F1) between a Lab and a Poodle, meaning their coat, shedding, and temperament can be highly unpredictable. An Australian Labradoodle (ALD) is a carefully developed, multigenerational breed (including Lab, Poodle, and Cocker Spaniel). ALDs have very predictable, soft, low-to-non-shedding fleece coats, consistent friendly temperaments, and a uniform structure.
All About DoodlesWhat is included when I bring my puppy home?
Every Tarheel puppy comes with a comprehensive genetic health guarantee, their first round of vaccinations, deworming, a microchip, a vet health certificate, and a snuggle blanket with their mom's scent. Families will purchase their puppy's food prior to bringing them home! They also leave with a foundation in Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS) and basic potty training concepts.
Your New Puppy GuideHow does the Guardian Program timeline work?
A discounted cost of $1500 is made to Tarheel Labradoodles or the fee can be waived if you sign up your puppy for the board and train at 6 months with my trainer at 2BK9, Brittany. Guardian puppies go home with their forever families at 8 weeks of age! Because they are so young, they aren't fully health tested yet—that official testing will occur between 9–12 months of age. Once they enter our breeding program, females will typically be retired by 4–5 years of age, while males are kept intact and active in the program until 6–8 years of age.
